Express Love by Writing Down what you love about him or her

I’m a big believer in the Law of Attraction (LOA).  Over the past year, I’ve expressed and strengthened my love to Brenda in many ways. One has been with this site and with everything related to Roses on the Windshield.

When I take the time to write about my love and how wonderful it is, I’m manifesting a better relationship. Last year, I started writing down the things I’m grateful for. Many law of attraction and success books recommend it and I finally started doing it about a year ago. I always end my list with gratitude for Brenda and our love.

I’m normally the first to get up in the morning and write in my journal and gratitude book before Brenda is up. The result is that when I see her first thing, it’s with thoughts of happiness and gratitude. The LOA brings us both the expectation and manifestation of love. If you haven’t given this a try, you may enjoy the results!

Express love through cooking

I love to cook and, for me, it’s a great way to express love. As I am typing this, I’m smelling the ribs I’ve been smoking fon in the smoker for about the past 5 hours. Made a Memphis dry rub and they keep smelling better. Mmmm :-)

My mom was a great cook and we always had great meals. I enjoyed helping out and I actually started cooking the family barbecued chicken on the grill back when I was in third grade. It was a lot of fun to get the grill set up, mound the charcoal, squirt on the lighter fluid, light it and wait for the coals to get gray so I could start the chicken.

When you think about it, cooking involves all of the senses and there is so much to do to make the experience more memorable and exciting. For me that’s happened when I’ve created something REALLY good or done something REALLY dumb! Either way, it adds to the experience. Of  course, food and cooking as part of a romantic evening adds a lot of possibilities and potential for some exciting fun and memories :-) .

For me, cooking is a way to express my love for the person or people I’m cooking for. I think I used to do it more for my ego to hear everybody tell me how great my meal was but now it’s part of the joy of making others happy. On special occasions, I’ll make Brenda her favorite meal, which is Chicken Kiev with twice-baked potatoes and asparagus with hollandaise sauce.

You are the Rose

magic rose on the windshieldYou’re probably familiar with the truism that to truly love, you must love yourself first.  Love and cultivate the awareness of the creator within you as well as your inner beauty and value.

In The Book of Secrets, Deepak Choprah teaches us a meditation on a rose to uncover the creator within us.

Find a beautiful red rose and hold it in front of you. Smell and absorb the fragrance. Explore the complexity of the the unfolding petals. Softly stroke your cheek and neck . Say to yourself, “Without me this flower would have no fragrance. Without me, this rose would have no color. Without me, this flower would have no texture.”

As you remove yourself from the physical sensations, the rose is nothing but atoms and energy existing in the universe. It is your experience at this moment that creates the beauty of the rose. At this moment, this rose is nothing without you. With you, the rose fulfills its purpose… To be one with your inner beauty. Realize that you are the beauty of the rose. Beauty such as this is truly beauty worth loving, as are you.

Rose of the Day – Greeting Cards of Love

I recently wrote about placing greeting cards from Brenda and our daughters in my journal. Looking at them always brings me a smile and feelings of love. Carol Ann, who is a member of Roses on the Windshield, wrote to me to share the story below, which I hop you enjoy

*Thank you Paul! I do the same thing – only I hide them like an Easter egg hunt as I get them. In drawers all over the house. And then when I find them it’s such a treasure. I have some things my grown sons wrote when they were little & some cards my now deceased husband made & gave to me. Talk about “Precious Memories” they are more than a song!!!*

Espress love with a smile when you get home

express love with a smileA lot of times, we arrive home with the weight of the
day on our shoulders. Whether it’s from clients,
employees, kids, traffic or whatever may be on your
mind, it’s easy to be preoccupied and let feelings
created by external events impact how we feel about
our loved ones when we get home.

Several years ago, I started something new. Right
before I get out of the car and again before I turn
the handle of the do to walk in the house, I take a
deep breath and say to myself, “It’s great to be
here, I can’t wait to see Brenda.” I then smile a big
smile and turn the handle to walk in.

For me, this little ritual makes a remarkable
difference in the day. Give it a try for a couple of
weeks. I think you’ll enjoy the results.

Rose of the Day – You are a Creator of Love

You have within you the finest possible creator of love and it is the most wonderful of all privileges to support, nurture and encourage this creator.

Allow this Rose to first create love for yourself. From there, it will bloom, multiply and flourish in your life and in the lives of those you touch with your inner beauty.

Rose of the Day – The Power of Your Words

We must understand the power of what comes out of our mouths.

The words we use can not only have an impact on the feelings of others but may also have a lifelong impact. An insult or snide remark to a person already full of fears and insecurities may be internalized as a truth by them. A kind, gentle or loving comment may change their entire outlook on life.

When I was younger, I often was fairly free with words that could hurt. During those days, I also seemed to carry a lot more anger and insecurities. As I’ve gotten older and am more careful with my words and choose to use more positive and loving language, I find that I’m a lot more at peace with myself.

You may have heard the saying, “Be sure that your words run through your brain before they leave your mouth.” I think it’s good to also let them pass through our hearts.

Rose of the Day – In the Living Years

This video is by Mike and the Mechanics. The founder of the band is Mike Rutherford, lead guitarist and one of the founding members of the band Genesis.

This song is about his wishing he had been able to come to terms with his father before he died. It’s one of my favorite songs. I really like the melody but the lyrics are incredibly powerful. For me, the lyrics go beyond the father-son relationship to our relationships with anybody we love.

The few times I’ve been at the bedside of a loved one, my final words were about the love and the feelings I had for the person. Others I’ve observed seem to be saying the same thing. If we are fortunate enough to have the chance to say final words, we do so.

What if the opportunity for final reconciliation never presents itself? How will the news affect me? Will I have regrets or will I feel some peace knowing the last words I said were along the lines of “I love you, I forgive you, I’m sorry, You are important to me” or some other positive words?

It seems that if our last words are harsh, there’s a good chance they may not be buried with the person, instead, they will continue to live in our hearts as regrets. At some time, we may realize we are forgiven, and always were.

Love and Roses on your Windshield,
Paul

PS – Maybe Roses on the Windshield Day is the perfect day to heal the wounds and start the habit of insuring the last words are ones we won’t regret.

The hardest thing to afford

Sometimes, I’ll look back through my life and think of the all of the things
I may have purchased or accumulated. Many of them were planned purchases and I got others on the “spur of the moment.”

Some of them were inexpensive and others were fairly large investments. Some were great purchases and others raise the question, “What the heck was I thinking about when I got that?”

Overall though, no regrets, except for one thing…

That one thing is free, easy to get and sometimes hard to get rid of. When I do get rid of them, I’m much happier because I’ve become very aware that, even though they are free, they are also VERY expensive.

What I least afford is my Rose to you today and I hope it gives you a bit to think about. I can’t afford resentments.
